PACKING MATERIALS

Orders are carefully and expertly packed with 100% green packaging. I use Gaemi Wrap, a green alternative to plastic bubble wrap, to individually wrap each item. Kraft paper is used to cushion and for void fill with reused cardboard inserts when necessary. Boxes are recyclable and I use water activated paper tape that is stronger than press on tape and is also recyclable.

I encourage you to reuse and recycle the packaging your piece comes in.

LOCAL PICK UP

I offer a Local Pick Up option for those who are local to my studio in Saline, Michigan. Typically, I have customers pick up orders at Thistle & Bess in Kerrytown Ann Arbor during shop hours.

Once your order is ready I will email you arranging a time for local pick up. Please consider carefully if you are actually able to pick up your order, it makes it difficult on my end if I have to change orders from pick up to shipping.

If you prefer to shop in person please see my EVENTS page to visit my booth at an art fair or my STOCKISTS page to see if there is a shop near you that carries my work.

DAMAGED SHIPPED ITEMS

In the unlikely event that your order gets damaged in transit please email me with clear photos of the item and the box so I can make a claim with UPS. Damage requests need to be made within 24 hours of you receiving your package, otherwise I cannot honor them. Please make sure to open your package promptly after arrival.

RETURNS

Unfortunately, all sales are final. Please understand it is difficult for a one person a small businesses to manage returns.

HANDMADE

Each piece is handmade from start to finish by me, Emily. I start by designing pieces in a 3D modeling program, create prototypes and handmade molds. I cast each and every piece with colored clay and finish them by hand. I then apply a clear glaze, fire them in my kiln and package them off to their new homes. Please note that with handmade pieces there will be slight variation from the photos on my website.

PRODUCT CARE

Pieces are all microwave and dishwasher safe, however I strongly recommend hand washing.

Ceramics are fragile, please exercise reasonable caution when handling and using your handmade ceramics. Do not leave planters outside in the winter, water expands when it freezes and may cause the planter to crack.

FAQ

Are pieces food safe?

Of course they are! I make functional ceramics that are intended for every day use. Each piece is coated in a food safe clear glaze.

Are pieces microwave and dishwasher safe?

They are safe to put in the microwave and dishwasher, however hand washing is recommend.

How do you get the glaze that color?

It actually the clay itself I stain the different colors. I have six different colors of porcelain with a clear glaze over top on each piece. The colors are paired Pink Bermuda, Avocado Purple and Orange Chartreuse for simplicity with inventory management.

How did you get this shape on a potters wheel?

I do not use a potters wheel to make my work, nothing I make is perfectly round. Pieces are made with handmade plaster molds and a process called slip casting using liquid clay.

Where is your studio?

My studio is in my basement in south east Michigan. I designed the space and built most of the work tables my self. I have an electric kiln I use to fire all of my work.

Why is there a shipping charge?

Ceramics are heavy and difficult to ship. They have to be carefully packaged which is time consuming. I have the shipping set at a flat rate of $12 per order so that customers know up front how much shipping will cost. Please be amiable with small business’ about shipping charges, we are doing the best we can.
